Shu-Ying Li made her operatic debut as Cio-Cio San in Madama Butterfly with Providence Opera in 2001.Since that time she sang the Princess in Tan Dun's new opera, Tea in Shanghai, returned to Hong Kong for Madama Butterfly and was the soprano soloist for the Beethoven 9th Symphony in New York.In 2003-04 she was Cio-Cio San for productions of Madama Butterfly with Connecticut Opera and Opera Santa Barbara and made her Spanish debut as Liu in Turandot in Palma de Mallorca.In 2004-05 she returned to Santa Barbara for Marguerite in Faust, sang Butterfly for Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center, debuted with Portland Opera as Butterfly and returns to Connecticut for Adina in L'Elisir d'Amore and reprised the Princess in Tea in Lyon, France before finishing the season as Butterfly with New York City Opera on their tour to Japan.She begins her 2005-06 season as Butterfly in her house debut with NYCO before traveling to Opera Columbus for the same role.She sang Liu in Turandot in Chiari, Italy, Ariadne in Ariadne auf Naxos in Tel Aviv and with Opera North in New Hampshire, and Micaela in Carmen at the Shanghai Concert Hall.
